Happy New Year – A Biscuity Review of 2020
So here it is…2021 so a Happy New Year to you all. After a lovely Christmas break, the real world is back with many returning to work this week. It is a little different to normal though with many schools closed, tier 4 across many parts of the country, and a general feeling of ‘When will this be over…?’

January can be hard regardless of global pandemics. So read on to see some happy biscuits to brighten your day. We know biscuits don’t fix things, but they really do make everything a little bit better!

Corporate Biscuits & Classes

It’s always so hard to choose my favourites over a year. We have gone from a brilliant icing class (yes, actual people in a room making Valentine Biscuit cakes back in early February) through to biscuits for Captain Tom when his autobiography came out. We also made the biscuits for the launch of Barack Obama’s book, A Promised Land (YES WE CAN), the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Nick Sharratt’s stunning illustrations for You Choose Fairy Tales.
Personalised Biscuits

Some people did manage to get married this year. We were so happy to make their wedding favours, and it was a privilege to work on the photo cookies people sent to family they couldn’t see this year.

Our gingerbread men had a slight upgrade this year to include masks, and we sent so many ‘Cup of Tea and a Biscuit’ packs out to staff working from home to help keep them feeling connected and boost morale (read our blog for how successful these have been to remote and furloughed staff!)

Colour in your own Christmas jumper (quite a few Zoom Christmas parties!),

Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows and more rainbows (we have made hundreds!),

Online gingerbread house competitions with biscuits, icing, sweets and logos provide by us, and the creativity provided by the recipients

Why Small Businesses ROCK! (And why you should buy from small businesses)
We are a very proud small business making branded corporate biscuits for corporate gifts, and personalised biscuits for parties and events. We have lots and lots of repeat business which means we are doing something right!

So as a small business owner, and someone whois passionate about supporting small businesses, I have been having a think about what my clients and customers have fed back to me about what they choose to use my little business for their biscuity needs….! . And when you put it all together…SMALL BUSINESSES REALLY DO ROCK!

A bold statement I know, but here’s why I think small business is great!
1. We are adaptable.
You want your Christmas biscuits with the details in your corporate colours? No problem. We just have that conversation and it is done! You want half of your biscuit gifts to be sent this week, and half next week? No problem – no need to place 2 orders, or ‘add notes to seller’, just let us know (email, text, phone, WhatsApp) and it is done. When I worked in large corporates, I had this brilliant analogy of a massive cruise liner – think how long it takes to change course and manoeuvre around – vs a small, kayak – just put the paddle in, turn around and head whoever you need to go. That is small business! (And I love an analogy!)

2. We care.

We really really do. Every order is a personal reflection of what we do and how well we can do it. There is no ‘other department’ to blame errors on – only us. So we tend to check, check and check again to make sure the order is one to make us proud. We are also reliant on good feedback, reviews and positive word of mouth – so we really do have a vested interest in making sure every order is amazing!

3. We are passionate…

…about our products, our customers and our businesses. You don’t put in the hours, the work and the attention to detail when you are not utterly passionate about what you do… If there is a problem, we fix it. If there is a special request, we make it happen. And if you have a crazy deadline, we find a way to make it happen (who needs weekends anyway).

4. It’s personal

Of course we have systems in place, and order numbers to refer to, but we know you. We know you by name, your company, what you like, what you don’t and how best to contact you, and even when to contact you. And we want to make you happy so you buy from us again – what better reason is there to shop small than that!

5. We appreciate every single order.

Spoiler alert – I always send a little custom biscuit gift to our business customers to thank them for choosing a small business (and my small business!). When was the last time you got thanked for buying from a big company? (Just saying’!)

This year, I for one will be trying to buy as much as possible from small and local businesses. There’s so much cool stuff on Etsy , and so many small local businesses are doing click & collect now they are unable to open. There are also so many ways you can support small businesses even if they are not selling stuff you want to buy. Have a look at some suggestions here.

Love In The Time of Covid – Biscuit By Post

Posting biscuits and happiness across the UK!

I was reflecting the other day about the biscuits we have baked over the past 6 months (since lockdown started). I scrolled through the images of all the delicious biscuits we have baked and iced, and I realised that my dream of creating a business that makes people happy is well and truly here!

We have made such a huge array of biscuits for individuals, companies, team leaders, parents, kids, people living on their own, people wishing they had more privacy and so many, many more. At a time when so many needed isolation gifts, we have been able to send custom and personalised biscuits through the letterbox. And the overwhelming theme has been sending custom biscuits by post to let people know they are loved, thought about, appreciated and missed.

It has been a privilege to send some of the personal messages on biscuits that children and grandchildren have sent to their isolating parents, messages of strength friends have sent to each other, reminders of better times sent on photo cookies, and sometimes just a simple rainbow biscuit to remind people that this will pass.

An absolute favourite was a mother who sent a custom biscuit gift by post to her son. He is in his early 20’s and was living alone through lockdown in a flat with no contact with anyone other than through a computer screen. She asked us to create a photo cookie biscuit gift box with images of her son as a (very cute) toddler, with the message “You are amazing, strong and have got this. Never forget that. Love from Baby [Name] from the past”. I have to admit as a mother, this made me well-up slightly, and I felt so privileged that we were helping raise a smile to someone who really needed it.

We have also worked with lots of companies since their staff were no longer able to work in offices. Managers wanted to find ways to let people know they were appreciated, and recognise that everyone who normally worked together were working apart and in very different circumstances. Another manager wanted to find a way to bring everyone together and recreate the office camerdarie – even if only for an afternoon. We have created everything from branded and customised biscuit gift boxes sent to every team member, through to a single Thank You biscuit and a tea bag to encourage people to have a cup of tea and a biscuit whilst chatting with colleagues. Again, baking custom biscuits to help bring some positivity at difficult time has ben a real privilege.

So as a small business owner in a rather turbulent year, I feel so proud that we have designed, baked, iced and delivered such an array of amazing, loving, funny, bittersweet and personal messages onto biscuits.
